Of course, there are a few other steps for the entire process. You will have to put a new bag in once you remove the old one in a way similar to how you would do in a normal trash can. Also, before putting the cat waste in, you will need to lift the lid and make sure that the handle is fully pushed in to allow access to the bag area below the seal. And when removing the full bag you will have to make sure that it is properly tied to avoid a stinky mess while disposing of in your trash can.
We found no major concerns with the performance and operation of the Litter Genie. However, we found that the current unit was perfectly capable of storing the waste until the bag was full. Even a few inches from the Litter Genie you could not smell the odor of cat waste. Sure, the product itself is essentially made of somewhat thin plastic but for the task it is intended for, the build quality and materials are perfectly acceptable. There is a bit of a process between getting the cartridge and having it ready to use.
The rough steps are as follows:. When the bag you have created fills, you can open the Litter Genie back up at the center and use the built-in cutter to cut the top of the plastic bag, allowing you to tie another knot at the top to close it. You would then pull out some more film and repeat the process above. Furthermore, the Litter Genie Plus also has an added antimicrobial in the pail itself to keep smells down.
And it holds up to 2 weeks worth of litter waste. Yes in a nutshell it does. Before I went to a rather expensive Litter Robot , I used to use one of these pails all of the time. I actually found that I would empty the litter box much more regularly as I just kept the pail next to the box.
And as it was so easy to use that was an added bonus. So if a cat used the litter box as I walked past I would just scoop and drop straight into the pail. It really did cut down any smells and keep my litter boxes looking a lot cleaner. You can also use any litter with it. I then just used to empty it once a week when the garbage was due to be picked up.
This new Litter Genie is also a little more advanced than the version that I used to use. This is because they have added the extra antimicrobial to the pail itself and the bags have been improved. They have also added a very handy scoop attached to the pail itself as well. So no more hunting about for the scoop.
I would though recommend emptying more regularly than once every two weeks. Especially if you have more than one cat as the pail can get rather full. With two cats I used to empty once a week. There are some minor design flaws with the pail, though. On the outside, it looks like a small trash can, but inside things get complex. To set up the Genie, you feed the bag past a spring-loaded slider and into the base, then tie off the end of the bag.
When you pull out the handle sticking out of the front of the pail, your scoops will drop into the bottom of the bag. The handle then retracts as you release it, creating a seal in the bag, which largely locks the litter smell into the lower section of the bag.
When that happens, you fold the top half of the Genie open to reveal the full bag in the bottom section. A safety razor in the middle of the pail makes it easy to cut the bag at the top, then you can tie the top of the bag, sealing it at both ends, ready to be tossed in the trash. Then you can pull more plastic out of the bag cartridge and tie it off to create a new, empty bag. The product comes with a refill cartridge, a litter scoop and a litter scoop holder. These variations share the same features except that they are larger and Litter Genie Plus has more colors to choose from.
Since the Litter Genie is affordable you may like to place one with every litter box that you have. Since it can hold a lot of litter, you do not have to go out to the dumpster every day. The downside of it is that the refills may cost a fair amount of money. However, these refills will last long, usually around two months if you have a single cat and one month if you have two cats. You do not have to go on daily trips to the dumpster to get rid of smelly cat litter, thanks to innovative products like the Litter Genie.
